Morning light—soft, pearly, almost alive—slid across the walls of Grandpa’s new home. He wandered around barefoot, half in disbelief, half in awe, brushing his fingertips along the strange material of the walls. It wasn’t wood. It wasn’t metal. It was… something else. Something warm. It hummed when he touched it, like it was greeting him.

“Still not on Earth,” he muttered to himself for maybe the hundredth time. “Still really here. In the Pleiades. Huh.”

He opened random drawers, poked at switches, leaned down to examine the seamless furniture. Everything looked handcrafted yet futuristic—like elves had become interior designers and discovered nanotechnology.

Grandpa could’ve happily spent the whole day just fiddling with things, but something tugged at him—a feeling that there was more waiting outside.

Just as he was about to sit down, a gentle shimmer formed beside him. His personal assistant—an elegant holographic being of soft blues and silvers—materialized.

“Grandfather,” it said warmly, “you have a holographic message from Sananda. Would you like to receive it?”

Grandpa blinked. “Sananda? As in… Sananda Sananda?”
“Yes.”

“Well heck yes, play it!”

The room shifted. The air thickened with a familiar, divine presence—and then Sananda appeared in full holographic clarity, smiling that big radiant grin Grandpa knew so well.

“Grandpa! How are you, buddy?”

Grandpa laughed. “Good—really really good, brother. You in the neighbourhood? LOL.”

He was joking, but Sananda nodded. “Actually… yes.”

“…Wait what?”

“I heard you were feeling ready for a spaceship ride. I wanted to give you your first one myself.”

Grandpa’s jaw dropped. “No way. Really?”

“Really. Meet me at the landing pad in your park. I’ll swing by later.”

Grandpa gave a goofy grin. “Amazing. See you soon.”

The Pickup

Later that day Sananda descended in a sleek silver scoutship—small, polished, almost like a high-end sports vehicle for interstellar beings. Not the giant New Jerusalem mothership, thank goodness. That thing was larger than the planet, and would’ve wiped out half the park just by showing up.

The scoutship’s hull shimmered like liquid moonlight. A transparent section at the front formed the viewing dome. Grandpa thought it looked a bit small for him but… it was Sananda. If anyone could fit a giant man into a tiny ship without issues, it was him.

The door slid open with a whisper.

“Hop in, my friend,” Sananda said with that playful sparkle in his eyes. “I hear you liked roller coasters back on Earth. Actually, I know you did—I watched you scream on that one ride in 2024.”

Grandpa groaned. “You saw that? That wasn’t screaming—that was, uh… chanting. Loudly.”

Sananda smirked. “Sure it was. Anyway, I think I can give you a roller coaster experience you’ll definitely remember.”

Grandpa raised a cautious eyebrow. “Go easy, brother. I don’t want to get sick.”

“You won’t,” Sananda assured him. “The ship will monitor your vitals and auto-adjust your gravitational field to keep you in perfect health.”

He paused.
“But… we do have barf bags just in case.”

Grandpa burst out laughing. “Sananda! You guys don’t use barf bags.”

“Oh we absolutely do. Advanced ones. Self-cleaning. Dissolve instantly. Very convenient.”

Grandpa shook his head. “This galaxy keeps surprising me.”
